Gobble Gobble…..

Well that beautiful time of year has come once again…..Thanksgiving….I will be eating real meals starting tonight lol. I will be celebrating Thanksgiving in Shreveport, LA….sooooo AS SOON as I get off I’m dipping out and kicking it with the fam. UNT needs to start just letting us have the full week off, but Winter Break is longer this year so I can’t complain too much. Hopefully, those Dallas Cowboys can put up another victory tomorrow against the Seahawks; that would be the icing on the cake.

FOOD For Thought:

Also, has anybody been watching these McDonald’s commercials lately. They are definetly targeting the Black audience. Even when they have cartoon characters, they are normally African American. But this last R&B commercial about the 10 pc McNuggets is just ridiculous. Do Black people eat more Mcdonald’s? Don’t get me wrong, their chicken selects do go hard haha, but most of friends go McDonald’s because of that good ol’ dollar menu not because of the quality of food…..

New President!!!

Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. This is a monumental achievement in American History. He is the first Black (Afro-American) President; this is the one fact that everyone Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Indian etc….dwells on. For those who believe that Barack Obama solely won because he is Black, you are sadly mistaken. Please do not take away this man’s accolades, educational background, campaign efforts, experience, knowledge etc… Barack Obama is our nation’s President not just Black people’s President. It was a day of mixed emotions for me to see President Obama give his acceptance speech while several of my peers steadily presented me with the most ignorance statements that I have ever heard. The Black vote only increased by 1 % from 17% in 2004 to 18% this year. President Obama won states such as Virginia and Ohio that only have 2% Black people; lets not live in ignorance.

I talked to my grandmothers, Maw-Maw  and my Granny G, about the election of our new president; they made me realize how important this event truly is. My Maw-Maw actually broke out into tears mid-conversation. Think about it: They have seen sooo much, they saw what their parents and grandparents went through,  they participated in sit-ins, boycotts, then came the civil rights acts of 1965 headed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, Brown vs. Board of Education, Leaders: Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Medgar Evers, Malcom X, Paul Roberson, Shirley Chisholm, Oprah Winfrey etc… They were both indicated that they did not think they would be alive to see this day, but they are overjoyed to witness and be apart of history. They both stopped to reflect on what their grandparents would have thought to see this day.

The world will not drastically change today, tomorrow, or the next day, but when the faucet drips it will slowly become a puddle. Hopefully this little spark will become a fervid flame for all to see!!!! “Its time for a change!!!”
